Greenbrier Rail Services (GRS) operates one of North America's biggest freight car repair, refurbishment, and wheel service networks. The company offers wheel set assembly and refurbishment, and axle finishing. Its railcar services include routine maintenance and repair, and wreck work. GRS also manufactures parts, such as doors, roofs, couplers, and yokes. The company was formed in 2002 when Three Cities Research acquired bankrupt railroad parts maker ABC-NACO; Three Cities sold its stake to members of management and Olympus Partners in 2004. Renamed Meridian Rail Services, it was sold again in 2006 to The Greenbrier Cos. and subsequently assumed its current name.
